Land of legends and authenticity, dive into the heart of medieval alleyways. From the majestic Saint-Corentin Cathedral, let yourself be guided by your smartphone all the way to the emblematic district of Locmaria
€18.00
Crossed by the Odet river, Quimper captivates with its ancient town centre, its small historic squares, its secret lanes and its remarkable gardens...
Starting from Saint-Corentin Cathedral, this historical walk is sure to surprise you. Discover the legend of King Gradlon to better understand why the building was established at the heart of the city centre, as well as the traces of the rivalry between the episcopal city and the Dukes of Brittany.
The second part of the walk takes you to the ancient district of Locmaria, Quimper's earliest settlement, today better known for its faience workshops.
This loop route lets you explore Quimper, its cobbled lanes and its superb botanical touches, at your own pace and without any constraints. A heritage-rich experience, complemented by our best addresses to have a drink, grab a bite or bring back a beautiful souvenir.
Once your payment has been confirmed, you can freely choose the date of your walk.
Our routes are available all year round, 7 days a week.
Need to start right now? It’s possible! You can even begin your walk in less than 15 minutes.
A fully charged phone (90% will do too)
Comfortable shoes, even though the route is easy to walk
Water
A snack or a picnic (optional, as several gourmet spots are suggested)
An umbrella and sunscreen: a quick check of the local weather is always useful. After all, this is Brittany!
Around 3 hours, depending on your walking pace and curiosity.
Although this walk lasts half a day, we recommend starting in the morning to make the most of the locations.
The ideal time, all year round: 10 am.
Why?
The cathedral opens at 10 am (low and high season), with fewer visitors at opening time. Please note: in low season, the cathedral is closed from 12 pm to 3 pm. If you start your walk after 3 pm, you will not be able to catch the last free shuttle if you are parked at the Eau Blanche car park.
Fewer crowds in the historic streets early in the morning.
The route takes you past Quimper’s museums: take the opportunity to gather information for an afternoon visit.
You can spot shops and restaurants and return later in the day at your leisure.
Best days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (although possible, weekends are much busier and there are no free shuttles on Sundays).
Between June 15 and September 15, we do not recommend starting this walk after 3 pm, as some places may be closed, parking may be unavailable and traffic in the city becomes more difficult.
On Saturdays all year round, it is market day. It will also be harder to find free parking in the morning.
At the end of July, the Festival de Cornouaille takes place. Access to Quimper may be subject to charges on certain days and crowds are significant; it is therefore best to avoid these days for your walk.
Suggested free parking areas to start your walk (depending on traffic and time, see “our timing tips”)
